Celtic Art Miniatures

This Celtic Art Miniatures course is designed to spark your interest in Celtic art patterns and designs. Miniature artwork is any piece no larger than 10cm x 10cm.

In this course, you will draw mandala and square-based designs, keeping them small or scaling them up if you prefer for ease of drawing. You’ll learn clear, simple techniques for creating Celtic knots and spirals, and use these to develop your own miniature artworks.

A strong focus is placed on colour, including mixing paint, choosing an harmonious colour palette, and painting one of your completed Celtic miniature designs.

This course is suitable for beginners through to intermediate students. Everyone is supported at their own level, with optional extensions available for those who would like a more challenging experience.

Celtic Zoomorphic Art - Birds

Celtic Zoomorphic Art is a distinctive style that weaves living forms—such as animals, birds, insects, and plants—into traditional Celtic knots and spirals.

In this course, you will be guided step by step through the process of drawing, designing, and painting your own piece of Celtic Zoomorphic Art featuring birds. You will begin by learning how to draw your chosen bird, then refine and simplify the image into a clean, elegant monoline design. From there, you will explore how to repeat and interlace your design, intertwining it with Celtic knots and spirals to create a cohesive composition.

To complete your artwork, you will apply colour using your preferred colour media. The teacher will demonstrate painting techniques using fine brushes to help you achieve a polished finish.

This course is best suited to students who already have a basic understanding and some experience in drawing Celtic knots and spirals.

Learn how to design Celtic Art Borders with traditional Celtic patterns, such as: Celtic Knots; Key Patterns and Step Patterns. You can use these border designs singly or layered, even creating a whole artwork layered with all 3 Celtic Border Patterns.
